2 and a half weeks till holidays

I enjoyed my bonus day off on Queen's birthday weekend. I had a haircut in the morning, then a nice long lunch with Lucy & Em. They were my friends from school who I socialised the most with, so I miss not having them around. I had a hold of wee Isla who is very sweet. She's a bit less scary to hold now that she's a bit bigger...
 Here is the proud mum.
Lucy also got a bit of practice in, she's due in the not too distant future so soon I'll have another friend's baby to hold!
We had to work hard to get Isla to smile for a pic, but we got there in the end.
The added bonus of a long, long weekend is the short week that follows it. I could get used to working 3 day weeks!

Last Saturday I had my second Wellington Masters badminton match. We played Counties in the morning and North Harbour in the afternoon. Going by the previous round of results we were expecting Harbour to be the tougher of the matches, but we beat Counties 9-3 and Harbour 11-1, so go figure... Kirsty Campbell, who I used to play against in juniors when I was playing for Waikato was playing for Counties, so it was good to catch up with her after 17 or so years! I could never beat her at juniors, but my partner and I won our match against her on Saturday so age must be a great leveller. That night we had a meal out and watched the AB's game at the Green Man. The Counties and Harbour teams also joined us so it was a good night.

Will is away at a conference in Brisbane this week so I've got the place to myself. The thing I'm missing most are his 'human hot water bottle' properties on these cold nights! Although I do find I get more work done in the evenings when he's not around...

Not much other news. School is trucking along nicely, although I'm still bogged down with marking. 2 and a half weeks left until school holidays. We get 3 weeks for the next one so I'm really looking forward to it.

Queen's Birthday

It has been a LONG time since the last post, so I thought, being a long weekend and all, it was timely for an update. School is going well, this term has raced by and we have now finished 6 weeks. I've managed to survive the silly season of reports, and have also been crazy busy with marking internal assessments. The changes to NCEA level 2 this year have added hugely to my workload. Last year my year 12 class had 2 internal assessments and 5 external, whereas this year they have 6 internal assessments and 1 external...

Badminton is going well, my next Wellington Masters match is next weekend. We are at home, playing
North Harbour and Counties who are both strong teams. I'm also enjoying helping my OBU rugby team out on match days. Last weekend was a good opportunity to give the camera an outing & take a few pics. We beat Stokes Valley by 3 points, which was a good result considering we lost to them by 3 in the first round.

Will has also been practising on the numerous Kereru who visit our property. He managed to snap these on a gorgeous crisp autumnal day.
There is not much else happening really. I've been counting down the days to this long weekend. My school also gives us the Tuesday off which is nice. I've got a haircut booked for Tuesday morning, then will meet up with Emmaline and Lucy (my two QMC friends who are both now on maternity leave) for a late lunch.
